MERAWAH POLL HEREFORDS
The Merawah Poll Hereford stud is one of Australia's premier Poll Hereford seedstock producers. Founded in 1936 by former Australian Poll Hereford Society President J.H.Doyle, and carried on by Ken and Judy Mackay and now by Andrew and Carolyn Mackay, the Merawah herd has been at the forefront of Poll Hereford breeding in this country since its inception. Literally thousands of bulls and females have left Merawah to work in the stud and commercial arena with many of the country’s top herds relying on Merawah bloodlines for genetic improvement. Stud sales have grossed over $2,000,000 in the past 5 years alone with the annual Bull sale being Australia's No.1 on property bull sale in the Poll Hereford breed for many years. There are very few herds in the business that have been under the direction of one family for three generations and the consistency and pre potency of the Merawah bloodlines is obvious in the strength of the female herd. They have been developed with over 7 decades of rigorous selection for commercial attributes with no deviation for the various fads that have appeared during all that time. The 2010 Female Dispersal sale was a "Once in a Lifetime" event with females selling to $34,000 and averaging $5628 and grossing $1.6milllion. Breeders had the chance to acquire females from the heart of the herd for the first time in 74 years.
